Speaker 1
Hi there. In this video we will have a look at the Teams interface to help you become familiar with its layout.
On the left-hand side of the screen, there are channels where files and conversations can be organised into different categories. Channels are arranged in alphabetical order. A little tip, create a plan of what channels you want to create prior to making them. To add a channel, click the three dots next to the team name and select add channel. Give the channel a name. You can even add emojis. Using the drop-down menu, choose the channel type. There are three different types. Standard, this creates a new channel where everyone in the team has access. Shared, where people or teams, either in or outside of the Department of Education, can have access to that channel only. Or private, where only specific people within the team have access and that are invited by the channel creator. Best practise is to have at least two owners of every private channel. Just take note. Once a channel is created, you cannot change its type, say for example, from standard to private and vice versa.
Within each channel are located tabs across the top of the screen. Posts are where you can communicate with colleagues, as well as share files and links. Files is where you can store any file type and can be accessed by everyone who can access the channel. You can upload multiple files at a time by dragging and dropping from your desktop into the Files window. Additional tabs can be added using the plus symbol next to files and choose what type of item you wish to add. This will add the same tab for everyone who has access to the channel. These may include commonly accessed websites, Word documents, or PDFs.
