This is the transcript of the 'Canva Foundations - Editing Tools' video.

Speaker 1:

Canva for Education - Foundations: Editing Tools Overview. In this video, we will explore the editing toolbar to customise and modify text, graphics, and images to enhance designs. We'll cover text editing, colour options, positioning, editing photos with Magic Studio, transparency and the lock feature. Starting with a design that already has the elements and overall style you want, we can use the editing tools to further enhance and refine it. You'll find the floating editing toolbar at the top of your design space. It appears whenever you click on an element, whether it's a text box, graphic, or image. The great thing about the toolbar is that it adapts based on the element you select, offering the options you need for that specific item. Let's begin with text editing.

When you select a text box, the editing toolbar provides options to change the font and size with plus/minus buttons and a drop-down menu. You can also apply standard text features like bold, italics, and underline, plus options for alignment, lists, and spacing. In the Effects section, you can apply a range of text effects, like shadows, outlines, or even create curved text. Some additional text features are available by clicking the three dots after selecting a text box, such as adding a link to your text, which could direct viewers to a website or another page within your Canva design. The lock feature, which lets you either lock the entire text box, preventing any changes, or just lock its position so the text content remains editable but can't be moved. And the translate tool, which can instantly translate your text into a language of your choice.

Next, let's look at graphics. When a graphic is selected, the editing toolbar will allow you to change its colour elements by clicking the colour circles in the toolbar. Moving along, you'll also find crop and flip options to adjust orientation and size. One of my favourite graphic features is found by clicking the three dots on the floating menu bar and scrolling right to the bottom, to the Info option. Here you can star favourite graphics, explore similar ones, or view an entire collection that matches the style of the graphic you're using. Now for images. The editing toolbar for images is similar to graphics with options to add a border, round corners, and crop, but the real power lies in the edit button. This opens a side menu with five sections, Adjust, Magic Studio, Filters, Effects, and Apps. With Magic Studio, you'll find tools like the Background Remover, Magic Eraser, and Text Grab, among a range of others. These are powerful tools that turn complex editing into a single-click function.

Below Magic Studio, you'll find Filters and some effects such as Autofocus, Duotone, and the Blur tool. The Adjust section at the top is where you fine-tune your image's colour, brightness, and tone. You can use the Auto-adjust button to save time or manually adjust the foreground and background separately. Canva also offers useful apps for image editing. It's worth exploring these to see which could be useful for you. When selecting colours for text graphics or backgrounds, the Colour menu gives you several options. Document colours, those already used in your design, brand colours, if you've set them up, and photo colours, extracted from images in your design. Don't forget the rainbow plus button where you can browse all colours, use the dropper tool to select a colour from your screen, or input a hex code for a precise selection. And if you're feeling creative, explore gradients at the bottom of this section.

For any element you select, you'll also see the Transparency and Position options in the toolbar. Transparency allows you to adjust the opacity using a slider. The Position tool has two sections, Arrange and Layers. Layers show every element on your page and their order. You can easily move elements forward or backward, or select multiple elements to move at once. Now that you know the editing basics, enjoy experimenting with all the tools Canva has to offer. Canva for Education, what will you design today?
