This is the transcript of the 'Exploring side bar' video.
Speaker 1
In this video, we will be diving into the design space and taking a closer look at the sidebar from within the Canva editing screen. We'll explore elements including all types of media, as well as text, brand, uploads, draw tools, and projects.
Starting with elements
This section contains a huge library of every type of media you could need for a design, including graphics, images, videos, music, and much more. To navigate the elements section, you can scroll down until you find the element type you are looking for, and then click either the title of that type or see all, then browse. I prefer to use the search bar first and type in what I'm looking for, then choose the element type that will suit my design. Use the tabs at the top of the sidebar when searching for elements to quickly switch between element types, such as graphic, photo, or video elements. To add an element, simply click on it or click drag and drop.
Text
From here, you can easily add a new text box to your design by clicking the purple button at the top, add a text box. Below this, you may see some of your brand fonts, if you have them, or just a selection of fun, pre-created font combinations. You can also use the search bar at the top to find a particular font to get started as well.
Brand
Once your brand kit has been set up for your school team, you'll be able to access and use all of its features, including templates, logos, colour palettes, fonts, and more.
Uploads
Here you can find all the media you have uploaded directly or previously into any design, including images, videos, and audio. Using the purple upload button, you can add content from your computer. Below that is the record button. This will take you into Canva's Recording Studio, where you can record yourself within your design or presentation, within your screen, or simply record a video screen capture.
Draw tools
These draw tools are available in nearly all design types and are great for marking up, brainstorming, or highlighting right onto your design. Explore changing the colour, thickness, and transparency to find the right combination for you.
Projects
The projects tab within a design is very similar to the projects section on the Canva homepage. You can either search for an existing project using the search bar or use the drop-down to access all projects, your projects, project created by you, or shared projects. The biggest benefit of accessing your designs, folders, and uploaded content from here is you can then easily add a single page or image into your current design from any of your existing projects.
You may also want to embed an existing design into your new design by choosing the embed option. This links an interactive design within a design, allowing you to view and click through multiple pages from a single page.
