This is the transcript of the 'Apple iMovie editing tools' video.
Speaker 1:
iMovie has some really useful and easy to use editing tools that make the application suitable for classroom use. If you haven't explored iMovie, take some time to watch the introductory video in this series. Look for the iMovie application. Open the application. The project manager will open. Here, you will see any other projects that you may have completed using this device. Let's open a new blank project using the movie option. You may be prompted to add media from your camera roll. You can also do this later. To get started, click the Create movie button. A very handy feature to point out that could be useful in saving you time is in the settings button. Within this menu, you'll notice that there are filters that you can apply to your project, or themes that you can use. There is some additional options to include the themes Soundtracks, along with Fade in and Fade out options. If you already have a video that doesn't require much editing, this could be a quick way to add some audio and tidy the start and finish of your project.
To start editing media from scratch, let's add our own media from the camera roll. I'm going to insert some video. In this menu, there is also stock media that can be freely used by editors. Let's choose a background. You'll see there is various colours, gradients, and patterns to choose from. Under the Audio tab, we can access our own audio saved to the device, or use stock audio and sound effects. I'm going to add a music track from the stock library. Once you have media inserted, you can begin editing.
Simply click the media you would like to edit and a yellow border will appear. You can trim the length by dragging the sliding ends. There will be a menu appear from the bottom of the screen that will give you further editing tools specific to the type of media that you have selected. Under Actions, we can cut out content we do not want to include. Once you have cut out the piece you do not wish to use, select it and choose Delete. Under the Actions menu, you can also detach the audio from the video track and there is options to duplicate the tracks.
The next menu option allows us to increase or decrease the speed of the media. We can also apply freeze moments in the media. Again, this can be controlled by moving the sliding ends. The volume option will allow you to individually control the volume of multiple tracks, meaning you can lower one whilst increasing another, such as lowering background music and increasing a speaker's voiceover. When selecting the Titles menu option, this will allow you to place a title on the media frame you have selected. There are many to choose from. Once you have chosen one, you'll notice there are further formatting options that will appear under the ellipsis.
The final tool in the editing menu is Filters. This will allow you to quickly adjust the presentation for a desired look. You may notice when adding multiple tracks of visual media, that a transition option will automatically be applied. Simply tap this icon and you can choose the type of transition and the timing that you require. Why not spend some time experimenting now by adding some media and making a short film?
