Transcript of 'Apple GarageBand - Editing your podcast' video

This is the transcript of the 'Apple GarageBand - Editing your podcast' video.

Speaker 1:

Welcome back to part two of using GarageBand to create a podcast. In this section, we will continue to explore the editing features that will really bring my podcast to life.

We can now make simple edits to our recording by tapping upon it. Let's see what options are available for us. In this example, I'm going to split the recording into two parts. The introduction, then the question, answer, and wrap-up sections.

Once you select the split option, you'll see a pair of scissors appear on the playhead handle. You can now simply slide the handle to the place where you would like to make your edit. Then touch and hold the scissors and swipe down.

You have now split your recording and can move it around. You may find it easy to zoom in and out of your recording by using your fingers simply by pinching them together or spreading them apart while touching the screen.

To enhance your podcast further, you can add sounds and music with Apple Loops. In another video, we have described the process of creating and recording your own music using Live Loops. If you like, this Live Loops music can then be used in your podcast. However, there are many other pre-recorded Live Loops which are fantastic and will work just nicely.

Tap on the Loops browser icon in the top right. You can search, sort and find many different sounds here, but the one I'd like to use today is in the Electro House section.

If you are looking for additional sound effects, I would suggest tapping, Get more Apple Loops, then searching for the sound pack, Toy Box. Once downloaded, it will appear as a genre called sound effects in the Loops browser. Certainly worth checking this one out.

Add your music loop to your recording by sliding the track into the tracks view. You can then edit the recording by tapping upon it or adjusting where it fits by tapping, holding, and sliding it to its new location. Let's explore all this in action by realigning recordings in our podcast.

The final part of the editing process is to ensure you have the sound levels right. You can simply adjust the sound for a particular instrument in a couple of ways. Firstly, tap and slide to the right the instrument you wish to adjust the volume on, then toggle it. Alternatively, tap the instrument, select automation, and move the line higher or lower. In this section, you can also make adjustments to the recording to fade in or out. This is achieved by firstly selecting Unlock by swiping the pen to the right in the top left-hand corner. When you tap upon the sound level, you can split and adjust sound at different points. Modify the sound levels that suit your recording.

The completed podcast is now ready for you to do a final review simply by selecting the play icon. Once you have completed the editing process, it is time to save and then export or share your work. Firstly, save and rename your project. Next, choose how you would like to share your project with another person or store it appropriately. There are many ways to use a podcast in your classroom to gain an insight into a student's knowledge, understanding, or opinions in such a wide range of topics that you will cover. Students find this very engaging and they love GarageBand as the creative tool that just makes it simple and easy to use. Check it out today.
