This is the transcript of the 'Apple GarageBand Live Loops' video.

Speaker 1:

Welcome to GarageBand. In this video, we will explore the fun and easy to use, but very powerful feature of Live Loops. Let's dive into GarageBand and take a look at this awesome creative tool. Let's begin a new project by selecting the plus icon or create song. Firstly, you can find Live Loops in the sound browser. You can toggle between tracks and Live Loops. We have explored tracks in a separate video. So today let's dive into Live Loops. The moment you launch Live Loops, you can instantly build big beats and create music like a DJ in just a few taps of the cells or columns that will allow you to build your own original arrangements from a vast range of instruments.

Once selected, a template browser will appear. You can choose a template from a range of genres here. Each genre is made up of a range of instruments with pre-recorded beats packaged together in smaller sections called cells. You have the option of starting a new template here too. But today, let's dive in and explore the rock template. Select Rock. It's the one with the guitar. The Live Loops grid is where you can record, play, and edit your musical ideas. You'll notice a lot of small cells when you launch it. These are pre-recorded music tracks using the touch instrument indicated on the left. In the grid, the cells are arranged into rows and columns.

The row uses the same touch instrument, but only one cell plays at a time. You can start and stop a cell playing by tapping upon it. GarageBand is very intuitive and will bring in the next track using its time snap feature. Time snap ensures the change that occur at a musically meaningful point. So let's dive in and explore this. The columns are great combinations from the range of touch instruments displayed. You can select the cells individually in a column or select the whole column by tapping on the column number at the bottom. You can even change to a different column by selecting that too. Time snap will ensure that the change will take place at the most suitable time.

If you are looking to stop all of the cells in a column from playing, simply tap upon the stop button at the top of the screen. Once you have found the style you would like, you can simply press the record button to create your track. Let's dive in and see this in action. If you wanted to make additional loops, you can select the plus icon. Then selecting loops or instruments. If you select loops, you'll have the option of selecting from a range of instruments or genres. If you select instruments, you can create a new loop that can be used. You will be navigated to the sound browser where you can select from a wide range of instruments and make your new recording.

This will now be available in the loops' browser for future recordings. Once you select an instrument, you can start playing and recording a track with four bars. You can adjust the placing and other editing features by tapping upon the loops edit icon on the bottom left. This will allow you to drag your track to a different column and make edits or even copy to another space. If you wanted to add additional instruments to your already recorded track. This is simple. You simply need to navigate to the tracks view, select the plus icon, choose your instrument, and make your recording. You can then simply edit and adjust your track for the new recording to fit in.

You can adjust the sound levels of each individual instrument too. Firstly, tap the instrument, select automation, and then slide the sound bar to the desired level within the recorded loop. If your students are looking to experiment further with that DJ experience, simply select the FX icon and let the fun begin. Once you are happy with your completed project, simply select the save icon and rename it from my song to your chosen style. This will now be to be used as a track that can be inserted into other apps and creative work through the share function.

So with many wonderful sounds, functions and opportunities for students to be creative with their exploration of music and audio tracks, GarageBand is a great place to start to create the sounds that will bring your projects to life.
