Transcript of the 'Adobe Express - make a video' video

Speaker 1:

Did you know that you can use Adobe Express to make videos? You can trim and split clips and add audio transitions and text. Before you watch this video, make sure you've watched the Adobe Express overview video in this series so you have a complete understanding of the dashboard and workspace. Once you've signed in, you can start by selecting Make a video on the home page or tapping the purple plus icon on the left and scrolling down to Video. Notice the main menu on the left. By selecting Templates, you can browse and select a pre-made template to use for your video, but for the purpose of this video, we will start from scratch. At the bottom of your screen, you will see your video's timeline showing a row for your visual media, a row for your audio and a play ahead. You can always preview your video by pressing on the play icon. You can move your play ahead to preview selected parts.

In the Media tab on the left menu, you will see that you can add media from Adobe Stock library or your own device using the Videos, Photos and Audio tabs. To add Stock media, search a topic, and then simply drag your selected media into the timeline. If you want to upload your own media, you can do so by clicking Upload from device. In the Audio tab, you'll also notice that you can record your own voice as well. You can trim the beginning or end of a clip by dragging the handles on either side. To cut a clip, you need to first drag your play ahead to where you'd like to make the cut. Then right-click or select the three dots and select Split. To delete a section, simply select the three dots and click on Delete scene. It is also easy to layer your elements. Each clip works like a slide, so you can layer, resize, crop and reposition the media easily by adding a new slide. If you need to know more about this, watch the Graphics video in this series.

To add transitions between clips, click the plus button. Select the type of transition you want and adjust its duration using the slider in the editing pane. Adding text to your video can be done through the text icon on the left menu. To start from scratch, select Add your text. Once you've edited and selected your text, you can customise your text by changing the font, colour, outline and effect in the editing pane. You can also choose a pre-made textile from scrolling through the editing pane. Below the timeline, toggle the switch Show layer timing to on. Now, when you select the text, you can adjust its duration. You can also animate it using the icon of three circles above the workspace. The Generate text effects option lets you use generative AI to create some very cool designs.

The Elements tab allows you to add objects and other design assets to your video. Browse the different categories in the tabs at the top and select an element to add it to your timeline. You can then resize, reposition and customise the effects of the element. If you'd like to move your timeline out of the way as you edit or preview, simply press the down arrow above it to hide and Edit timeline to show it again. You may also notice this animate characters option. This is fun to play with.

Another great feature you'll find in the editing pane is the option to Remove background. You no longer need a green screen. All changes will save themselves. It's a good idea to change the name of your video by selecting and typing over the Untitled document in the top left of your screen. When your design is finished, you'll find your download and sharing options in the top right-hand corner of the window. In Download, you'll be able to choose from a few formats and sizes. In Share, you can ask others to collaborate or grab a template or View link. You can also push it out to your student management system. Have fun creating.
