This is the transcript of the 'Google Delegated Admin - Devices settings' video.
Speaker 1:
Welcome. This tutorial will guide you through effectively managing Chromebook devices using Google Delegated Admin Console. We'll focus on the Devices section, providing practical steps to ensure security and compliance across your school. Let's get started. First, let's review the devices registered within your school. Navigate to Devices section on the left-hand side, extend the Chrome tab and click on the Devices option. Here, you'll see a comprehensive list of devices in your staff and student organisational units. Notice the filter option at the top. You can filter by device type, user, operating system, and quite a few other useful search options like serial number, location, or notes. This is crucial for quickly locating specific devices.
Here, you can view relevant device information, including device's serial number, the time it was last synced and last user's email. You can also customise the columns displayed to prioritise the information most relevant to your role. Click the column settings icon in the right-hand corner to add or remove columns. Some of the useful options are ChromeOS version, Model, Last known user, Battery health or Notes section, which might be useful for assigning devices to users or locations and noting any issues.
You can also move these tabs up and down the list to determine which settings will be more prominent. This information can also be downloaded into a CSV file using the export button. Now, let's explore management tasks. Selecting on the device or a number of devices by clicking on the ticker box will allow you some quick actions on all selected devices. You'll be able to move a device from one organisational unit to another, disable, and by clicking on the more option, you will be able to reset or power wash the devices, as well as change the upgrade. If a device is lost or stolen, or if a user leaves the organisation, you can disable the device. When using this feature, you can also add a custom screen message to inform the user why the Chromebook has been locked.
For example, you can ask them to return the device to a particular faculty or a trolley location. This message can be customised in the device setting section. Double clicking on the device will open up a more detailed menu for individual devices. Along with Moving, Resetting, Disabling, and Deprovisioning of the device, you'll be able to capture the log and also remote desktop into device if needed. Here, you'll have access to detailed information on the device, devices operating system, hardware, as well as apps.
Next, we'll have a look at applying settings. Navigate to settings within the devices section on the left-hand side. Select the organisational unit or the year group you would like the settings to apply to, and then click on the Device settings tab at the top of the screen. Here, you can configure policies for various devices. You can use the search bar at the top of the screen to look for particular settings using natural language.
You will notice under the Inheritance tab that some of the settings have been set up by the @education.nsw.gov.au domain. These were applied when the devices were enrolled. Some of the other settings are recommended Google settings, and then there are some locally applied settings. To ensure the proper operation and easy management of devices, we would recommend caution when making any changes. We will cover some of these settings in this video. For example, the forced re-enrollment setting has been applied by our domain. This setting enforces the automatic re-enrollment of the device after power-wash. We can also see that allowing power-wash to be triggered is a default Google setting. Setting up a custom message for the user when the device is locked has been changed at a local level and can be customised for different organisational units.
Some other settings that schools may wish to change include customising the device wallpaper image in the section, and power management in the power and shutdown section. Lastly, any reports, logs or CSV files generated in the Google Delegated Admin Console can be found by clicking on the hourglass icon in the top right-hand corner. Thank you for watching this tutorial on managing devices with Google Delegated Admin.
