Issue 125 - Term 3 Week 9

Issue 125 - 2025 | Term 3 | Week 9

A group of students learning with their teachers on their laptop

We are excited to share an update on the End User Device Refresh (EUDR) program, which will ensure all NSW public schools have access to modern, reliable devices that support teaching and learning.

The program will roll out in three phases:

Phase 1: Provisioning fit-for-purpose devices for teachers and building strong processes for procurement, support and lifecycle management. (Commencing Term 1, 2026)

Phase 2: Extending device refresh cycles to students and school support staff, with improved automation and centralised tracking. (Commencing Term 3, 2026)

Phase 3: Transitioning device provisioning into a fully embedded, centrally managed service for all schools with pro-active device replenishment.

Pilot schools: To prepare for the broader rollout, 20 schools will take part in a pilot. This will test our approach, confirm processes and gather feedback.

Audits: Late September–October 2025 (schools validate device information).

Selection and delivery: November–early December 2025 (teacher devices delivered and enrolled).

Review and plan: December 2025 (post-pilot review).

Key dates

Pilot completion: 12 December 2025

Phase 1 start: 12 February 2026 (planned commencement date)

We’ll share updates and FAQs as the pilot progresses. Thank you for your ongoing support, as we work to create a consistent, secure and equitable technology environment across NSW Public schools.

The “ClickFix” social engineering technique is trending, as cyber criminals target genuine websites to spread malware. If you visit a compromised website, you will be prompted to prove you are not a robot, and asked to complete steps to verify yourself.

But this is different to the normal checks (often called CAPTCHAs) as it asks you to copy, paste and run commands.

If you follow these instructions, a malicious code is run on your computer, to silently install an infostealer on your device in order to steal log in information and the department’s data.

Take steps to stay safe. Think before you copy-paste code.

  • Stop if it feels rushed, urgent or too good to be true. Never copy-paste commands from website pop-ups or emails.
  • Check – especially if it involves typing commands or copy-pasting to “fixing errors.”
  • Protect – Close your browser window and do not proceed any further. If you are unsure or have run commands, call EDConnect on 1300 32 32 (press 5 for IT).
  • Learn – Protect yourself from social engineering on MyPL (15 mins).
