News Introducing GenAI student lessons for Stages 3–6
Teachers can now access five new lessons designed to help students in Stages 3-6 understand GenAI and learn how to use it safely and effectively.
These lessons aim to build students’ critical thinking skills around GenAI and provide them with opportunities to practice using NSWEduChat.
Each lesson takes around 30 minutes, and they should be completed in this order:
- Introduction to GenAI - the nature of GenAI and its strengths and weaknesses, and the features of NSWEduChat.
- Introduction to prompting - how students can write effective prompts for NSWEduChat.
- Misinformation and GenAI - why GenAI tools can give incorrect or incomplete answers, and how to use NSWEduChat wisely.
- Navigating ethics and AI - how to think critically about the ethical use of AI.
- Understanding bias and AI - how AI training data can cause bias, the impact of bias on people and society, and how to learn in a world influenced by AI and bias.
Differentiated versions of these lessons are available for Stages 3-6. Teachers can also access lesson plans to support their delivery, including syllabus links.
Find these student lessons in the NSWEduChat Staff Resource Library and start thinking about how you might lead this learning in Term 1!

Info Internet @ Edge reminder
Students and teachers using school‑managed or BYOD Apple devices, and any other BYOD devices, including Chromebooks, may experience issues accessing websites or opening web‑based apps if they haven’t signed in to Internet @ Edge for the day.
To ensure smooth access, please remember to visit detnsw.net or use the Internet @ Edge shortcut on the home screen of school-managed Apple devices to sign in before browsing or using apps that need internet.
If students are working on shared devices, they should log out at the end of each session by returning to the Internet @ Edge page. This helps ensure the next user can connect without issues.

Update EdBuy Catalogue - Devices update
The 2025 EdBuy Catalogues for End User Devices have undergone a comprehensive review and upgrade as part of a targeted enhancement to the Hardware Standards for End User Devices and Monitors.
As a result, all devices currently listed on EdBuy have been assessed against the new standards, ensuring greater performance, reliability, and suitability for classroom and administrative environments.
During 2025, a total of 132 potential devices and monitors were evaluated, resulting in the testing and approval of 68 different models sourced from 4 vendors.
The Standard Devices for Schools webpage has been updated to reflect these changes, with all discontinued and outdated models removed, providing a single source for current approved devices.
These updates will benefit students and teachers by ensuring access to reliable, high-performance technology that supports effective teaching and learning.
Update Updates to AssessedIT
The AssessedIT portal has introduced two new features to help staff stay informed and make clearer decisions when selecting services.
A new ‘watch’ feature is now available. By selecting the envelope icon next to a service, you can subscribe to updates and receive notifications whenever there are changes to that service’s information. This ensures you always have the most current details without needing to manually check the portal.
A licence type field has been added to each service listing. This clearly indicates whether a service is provided under a paid or free licence, where this information is available. Having this visible at a glance will help you understand any potential costs before using a service.
Please remember when using paid online learning tools, you must only select products approved in the Online Learning Tools Marketplace.
Info Accessing your 2026 Canva team
Your free Canva Education access via your DoE login automatically provisions you to your school team when you sign in. Any staff member or student who changed schools in 2026, including moving from a primary school to a high school, will need to sign out of Canva and sign back in via the DoE Staff/Student portal essentials tile to be provisioned to your 2026 school.
Remember to look for the blue tick in the team switcher as these are the Canva teams managed by NSW DoE and provide you with premium Canva access for free.
It is important to note that designs made in Canva are saved in the Project space of a team so if you would like designs from your previous school in your new school, you will need to copy them over.
Please use this guide to learn how to switch teams, and copy designs from one team to another.
Can you talk faster than you type? Then you should try using a dictation tool on your device. Look for the microphone icon in apps such as Word or Google Docs, on your mobile device or on your Windows device press the keyboard shortcut: Windows +H. This will enable voice typing wherever there is a flashing cursor.
Check it out in action in the video below. For more dictation tools available on iOS, macOS and ChromeOS, as well as other inclusive and assistive technologies, visit the T4L website.
Update Suggestions for CDM features
