NAPLAN 2026 locked down browsers (LDB) have been deployed to all managed devices. Please ensure devices are powered on now to allow installation of software updates and the 2026 LDBs. Schools with BYOD and self-managed devices need to refer to Assessform to install the LDBs.

Chromebooks must now run ChromeOS version 130 or later. Please ensure that all devices intended for NAPLAN testing are checked, updated, and tested prior to the NAPLAN test window.

The password for the service account nswnaplan@det.nsw.edu.au has changed for 2026. Principals will be emailed the new login password details soon to send to NAPLAN coordinators and technical support officers.

Please refer to the Device Issues - Advice for Schools sections in the locked down browser guides for known issues and relevant troubleshooting steps.

To support technical preparation, schools should test the locked down browser on devices that will be used for NAPLAN, by using the Demonstration tests or the Training and Practice links in the LDB menu. Refer to technology requirements for more information on technical preparation.

Staff involved with NAPLAN can register for live online training or access self-paced eLearning.

For NAPLAN enquiries contact the NESA NAPLAN team on 1300 119 556 or by emailing naplan.nsw@nesa.nsw.edu.au.

For help with device checks call EDConnect on 1300 32 32 32 and select option 5.

As the school term progresses, it's important to ensure our students are equipped with the knowledge and skills to use NSWEduChat safely and effectively. NSWEduChat, the department's AI chatbot, is a fantastic tool for supporting student learning with conversational responses tailored to their schoolwork.

To help schools facilitate safe use of NSWEduChat, the department highly recommends that schools deliver the student induction session – Safe use of NSWEduChat. This 15-minute session can be delivered easily in classrooms, assemblies, or year meetings.

The induction covers:

  • the basics – What is GenAI? What is a chatbot? What is NSWEduChat?

  • how to use NSWEduChat for school tasks

  • how NSWEduChat shouldn’t be used

  • how to stay SAFE when using NSWEduChat

Teachers are also encouraged to complete Pathway B: Supporting classroom use of GenAI in the GenAI learning pathways, which includes practical information and ideas on integrating GenAI tools safely into teaching and learning activities.

Remember: NSWEduChat is for schoolwork only. Staff should monitor student use carefully and apply professional judgement to ensure the tool is used safely and responsibly.

For more information and resources to support your school community, visit the department’s website on supporting safe student use of NSWEduChat.

Minecraft Education is available for teachers and students to access and is one tool that can help support learning. With a wide variety of academic researchers contributing to this research, there are some interesting findings for you to consider as you use the tool in your classrooms.

By working collaboratively to plan, build, and explain their thinking, students develop skills including critical thinking, communication, and persistence alongside curriculum knowledge.

From the feedback we received at the end of last year, we’re going to include a timely time-saver tip each edition. This could be a shortcut, app tip or simple workflow to help you and those you work with!

Our first one is a keyboard shortcut: Windows +V. Simply press the two buttons simultaneously to activate your Windows device’s clipboard history. From now on the items you copy, using Control +C or right click and Copy, will now be stored in your clipboard history.

Instead of pressing Control +V, press Windows +V and choose from the list of items copied such as text, website URL’s, screen snips or even your email address!

Try it today – it’s a game changer!
