Transcript of Google Sync Client

This is the transcript fo the "Google Drive - Sync Client" video.

Speaker 1:

Hi. In this video we are going to explore the use of the Google Desktop Sync Client to access and manage files saved in Google Drive Cloud Storage. To get started, check to see that the Google Drive app has been installed on your device, by typing Google Drive in the search bar, at the bottom of your screen. If the software cannot be found, for school owned devices, it'll need to be deployed via UDM by your computer coordinator. To instal Google Drive app on your personal computer, go to Staff Portal and select the Google Workspace. Then open Google Drive. Next, click on the cog icon in the top right corner, and select Get Drive for desktop. Follow the installation instructions.

Once the app is installed on your device, open it, and when prompted, log in using your @education.nsw.gov.au email address. Follow the prompts in the pop-up browser window to finalise the login. Google Drive will now appear as an option in File Explorer, listed on the left-hand side. If you cannot see it there, try expanding the tab named This PC. Opening Google Drive from your File Explorer will give you quick access to files saved in either My Drive or shared drive spaces. Using the Desktop app also allows you to save documents and downloads straight into your cloud storage, without the need for uploading.

You can easily move as well as copy files to another location. If you are a user of Microsoft products, but need to store them in the Google space, opening them using Google Desktop Sync Cloud means they will open in native Microsoft apps, with access to full suite of editing features. One thing to note is that Microsoft Files saved in Google Drive do not save automatically, and they will need to be manually saved before closing the application.
