In a recent interview addressing technology in schools, Secretary Mark Scott, once again outlined his commitment to developing both staff and students’ technology skills in NSW public schools this year.
The department, led by the Information Technology Directorate (ITD), is currently developing a NSW education digital strategy which is due out later this year. The approach will be informed by research and exploring best practice within our schools.
TALIS, The Teaching and Learning International Survey recently found that Australian schools are the third-biggest users of ICT among participating OECD countries.
Part of the challenge lies in teacher training in technology. ‘We recognise that for teachers, who are not digital natives, we need to invest in their professional development,’ says Mr Scott.
