Safer internet day - Be an esafe Kid: Fake news, real harms


Safer Internet Day is an event now celebrated in approximately 170 countries worldwide. This year’s theme is "Together for a better internet".

The DET and eSafety Commissioner are working together and inviting you and your students to sign on for a webinar to address current challenges and test your students’ ability to detect fake news.

Students will:

  • identify trustworthy information about current issues
  • detect fake news and sponsored endorsements
  • recognise the harm caused by misinformation online.

Target audience

  • Level - Middle primary, Upper primary

What do I need?

  • Completion of the registration form. A link will be sent to you with instructions to join on the day.
  • Please then reply to the registration email with the number of students (if any) that will be participating in your classroom.

On the day

  • Theatre style set up - Internet,  large screen (IWB) and speakers
  • There will be support materials and an opportunity to participate in a follow up activity (optional)
