This week, you will meet Environmental Scientists from ANSTO and Birdlife Australia to explore the amazing journey of migratory Shorebirds. Shorebirds are rapidly declining in numbers and several species are now threatened with extinction. In Australia and elsewhere their shoreline habitats are being permanently affected by human activity or are disappearing altogether.
Lesson plans and resources will be available in the stem.T4L Learning Library. Make sure you visit this board before the session to ensure you and your students have all the resources you need to participate.
STEM Specialists will include:
Dr Tom Cresswell – An Environmental Research Scientist at ANSTO with a passion for understanding how humans impact our environment.
Patricia Gadd - A Chemist that runs one of the most important environmental labs at ANSTO.
Lindall Kidd – A Program Officer for Birdlife Australia and a shorebird scientist that has worked with migratory shorebirds in Arctic Alaska.
Dr Stephanie McCready – Has a background in environmental science and has worked in the ANSTO Education Team for six years. She is the creator of the ANSTO Shorebirds Competition.
