Becoming digitally literate is an essential skill for students today. Safer Internet Day is now a worldwide movement celebrated on February 9. This year, T4L is working with the eSafety Commissioner to bring you and your students online workshops to tackle these issues in Week 3.
‘It's really a great opportunity for all Australians to start the chat about being safe online, whether it's at home, whether it's at school or work or in the community, and then keep building the digital skills throughout the year,’ says Kellie Britnell, Manager – Education, Training and Enquiries at the Office of the eSafety Commissioner.
Could your students detect fake news?
Do they know how to identify trustworthy information about current issues? How good are they at detecting and understanding sponsored content and endorsements?
‘Kids as young as two are now accessing the internet, and if they're starting that young, we really need to be starting the chat early. And as young people start their digital journey, we believe it's really important to provide them with age-appropriate advice and resources to help them keep safe online,’ Kellie says.
